Default Finding an alliance

I didn't see a forum dealing with alliances, and couldn't see anything else, so I do hope this is the right place for it.

I'm the leader of a small guild looking for a Luxon alliance, but the problem is, I have no IDEA how to go about finding a good one. I have yet to see one advertised in public chat that doesn't come off as being immature as all get out. I'm looking for an alliance that does elite missions, HM, faction farming and whatnot together, is there a general place online where they recruit, or does anyone have any suggestions for alliances to apply for or look into?

Thanks in advance for any help, I appreciate it.

Most people who are looking for an alliance on Guru usually will post in the PvE lf Guild section, and people recruiting members for an alliance is the PvE Recruitment section.

One way to try and get an alliance to go to like Kamadan, LA or KC and just say that you're a Luxon guild looking for an alliance.

And when you're contacted by the alliance leader, check out things like (and if this sounds like an interview-that's because it pretty much is):

1) Alliance Events
2) Profanity and Alliance Chat (some keep AC rated G, others it's everything goes)
3) Frequency of Elite area runs (if that's your thing)
4) Any faction requirements
5) Any guild size requirements

It's also good to see if they have an alliance vent/TS/forums that you can leech off of.

Good luck!

Check PvE Looking For Guild and PvE Guild Recruitment, sometimes people post 'search for alliance guilds' in those forums.
I know my old guild got their new alliance from a posting here on guru not that long ago.
And I've also met our current alliance here on guru about a year ago.

Other than that, your guildies and friends might be the best source of decent alliance members.
Talk with them to learn which are the good and the not so good guilds.
If you have a list of decent guilds, try figuring out who's leading/officer and talk to them.

Specific alliances?
I can name a few, but won't.
If you don't know the more know guilds which focus on the things you want search the forums.
Found them? Try to contact someone from a guild that looks good to you.
They might not be able to take you into your alliance but they might be able to point you to an other alliance or guild.
Some of those guilds might have certain requirements you should meet, like active members or specific activity.

More generic things to think about:
- Know what you want, HM + Elite + faction farming + 'whatnot' is not specific enough, at least not for me. That covers the entire game....
- Make sure you know how your guild would contribute to the alliance and not only leech.
- You want your guild to fit into the atmosphere of an alliance. Some people love unresticted chat, others don't like it.
- Know your guild's strenghts and weaknesses and more important, your own as guild leader. Be honest about it.

Being guild leader in an alliance can mean spending a lot of time dealing with issues you don't have to deal with as leader of a single guild.
Things will go wrong in alliances once in a while and you will be asked to deal with them.
Make sure you are up to it, you can't kick misbehaving alliance members and you can be asked to kick your best friends when they misbehave (or be forced to leave the alliance if you won't).

Definetely very important to know what the policy is on alliance chat and that you let your guild members know what they are.

Our alliance leader runs a very family friendly guild, so our Alliance Chat does not allow any profanity. But every so often we get some jerk who doesn't seem to grasp this simple concept and we've ended up kicking entire guilds for it.

On the flip side, we've had guilds join because their old alliance allowed all sorts of stuff in alliance chat.

So if you're the sort that likes to run a "clean" guild, make sure that alliance chat would be equally clean. If you run a guild where you allow language/off color comments etc. make sure you know what the policy is on that stuff running over into alliance and that your guildies know to keep it in guild chat.

Lik Jos said, having a special talent or knowledge to bring to your new alliance is nice, but I don't find it 100% necessary. Just make sure you're active and you know any alliance rules/conditions.

My guild joined a new alliance recently, and someone over alliance chat wrote, "if anyone needs lockpicks? pm me" So I pm'ed him thinking I'd get an alliance deal on the picks. I asked how much for 20 lockpicks? (Seeing as they're only 1.25k per in LA, KC, Kamadan etc.) He replied with, "for 20 lockpicks, i'll hook u up only 30k." LOL that works out to 1.5k per, what an awesome deal..

You'll find people like that in alliances. Most (and I'm part of this crowd) will offer a discount to alliance buddies, if not just give stuff away (although the giving away is to mostly long time members of my guild-so don't PM me :P).

Being part of a full alliance with a few massive guilds, I would like to point out one small fact: It is impossible to control the actions of all members of all guilds all the time. No matter which alliance you join you will have good and bad people. The ratio varies of course depending on the alliance.

Like some have pointed out already, look for an alliance with a decent number of good size, active guilds that share your interests. Make sure to ask about any specific rules or reqs, and make sure you get along with your alliance leader.
